The strain proteins belong to a very conserved group present in virtually all animal tissues. These, which includes the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), are responsible for a part of the natural endogenous defence program against potential harm triggered by overexertion and several other sorts of tension, in all of the tissues in which they may be present. They are expressed in distinct tissues within a reasonably short time frame following alterations in homeostasis related to physical exercise and the resulting physiological alterations, for example an increase in body temperature, oxidative stress.
